Orion has adapted its technology and organization to fit how our DSO partners operate. Our tools are structured as a library of configurable power-systems and AI building blocks, with a focus on integration flexibility and speed. We adapt to you, rather than the other way around.
Field-proven, purpose-built tools.
Our tools are built for and with DSOs, and scale to the full low-voltage grid. They are designed from the ground up for the low-voltage grid’s data scarcity, stochasticity, and low data quality. Orion is a spin-off of VITO, KU Leuven, and EnergyVille, building on a decade of R&D and close DSO co-development. Our technology sits at the crossing of power-systems engineering and AI, but it is no black box: we deliver interpretable results, with an accuracy our DSO partners trust enough to use for their own data-quality checks.
Value from the data you already have.
We adapt to the data you have and to your formats, and we handle the complexity of parsing and cleaning it. We never offload modelling to the DSO. Orion actively helps you improve the quality and completeness of your low-voltage grid visibility.
A modular toolbox, not a platform.
We cover low-voltage digital-twin functionality end to end, across knowing, managing, planning, and operating your grid. Each tool works standalone or in concert, so you can deploy only what your current needs require, at minimum effort and cost. Each further deployment reuses prior integration, so integration cost and effort fall as you expand.
Tools that feel built in-house.
We extend your own IT infrastructure — on your own cloud or servers — as if you had built the tools yourself, but with proven technology, delivered faster, and with all required expertise at hand. We can deploy on any system: cloud or (virtual) server. All user interfaces and data exports adapt to your language, policies, conventions, terminology, and culture.

MEET OUR TEAM
Security by design.
Orion works with some of the most company-critical and privacy-sensitive data a DSO holds. Our technology and way of working are built from the start with security in mind:
- Avoid data transfers. We prefer to deploy on your systems, so sensitive data does not leave the DSO IT environment. Pilots are the main exception, to shorten turnaround time.
- Limit privacy-sensitive data. Where feasible we use smart meter voltage measurements; we use power and energy measurements only when we must, and anonymized data wherever the application allows.
- Need-to-know access. Orion staff access data strictly on a need-to-know basis, and our internal IT security is on par with best DSO practice.
- European by default. Orion Grid Technologies is a European company, registered in Belgium, processing data in line with the GDPR and using EU-hosted IT systems exclusively.
Co-development.

START WITH A PILOT
Most DSOs like to start small, with a pilot, to prove the technology works on their own data. So do we. A pilot keeps the barrier low and gives us the chance to prove the value of our team and our tech, and we are flexible in scoping it to fit within your budget.
To keep it fast and light, we usually run the pilot on our own infrastructure, from a single, manual dataset transfer. Part of that work is always data ingestion and algorithm configuration, and none of it is lost: if we move to deployment, much of the pilot effort is reused. Deployment then runs on your own systems, as most DSOs prefer. And you decide how to structure the licenses and deployment cost, as CAPEX or as OPEX, whatever suits you best.
